This 4th of July weekend I set out on a road trip from Denver, CO to Cimarron, CO with my husband, brother and his girlfriend. The six hour drive was a long one, but the Colorado scenery was beautiful and changed from rigid mountains, to vast valleys and open plains. We eventually made it to the Cimarron Ridge, where the mountains were carved so differently than anywhere else I had seen in Colorado. We drove past Silver Jack Reservoir and set up camp near the East Fork Trailhead. The camping spot was perfect, we stopped at the last camp site on Forest Service Road #863 and camped in a wooded area right next to the East Fork Cimarron River.
The next day we hiked up the East Fork Trail, which is part of the Uncompahgre Wilderness. The views were amazing! Walking through the meadows with shear rocky cliffs on both sides made you feel like you were in Switzerland!
Later in the day we drove down to the Silver Jack Reservoir to go fishing. The views from the reservoir were breathtaking as well! They are definitely some of the best views I have seen in Colorado.
